Résumé

Contemporary relationships are characterized by the coexistence of different models, with numerous outcomes and denominations. We see relationships ranging from the most traditional and monogamous - based on the ideal of romantic love and the classic division of gender roles - to more flexible arrangements which, among other possibilities, includes extramarital relationships, long-distance marriages, living in separate houses, non-monogamy, polyamory, among others. Despite these transformations, the management of the affections, as well as the unconscious fantasies that are mobilized in the development and maintenance of the romantic relationship, remain the subject of studies and therapeutic interventions. This article will reflect on contemporary emotional relationships, problematizing the approaches to hearing this phenomenon.
